Comfort Cooking.

Last week Jo and I had our first "Nigella Night" (or Nigella Noon, as it was) ... Jo got this cookbook last year and we both fell in love. So a few weeks ago, she gifted me my own copy and we plan to cook our way through it this winter.

The recipes we selected for our first date were Apple Kuchen and Cheese Blintzes. While Rowan took a snooze, Ever, Jo, and I cooked away. Unfortunately, we didn't get to complete both recipes in time for Ever's nap. So because of time and pan restraints, the Apple Kuchen didn't quite turn out. We'll have to give it a try again soon ... However, the cheese blintzes were delightful. Definitely a once-in-a-while treat, but wonderful to know they're there :)

Junior High basketball is in full swing, so everything is planned around daily practice and weekend trips. Yesterday I made a chicken pot pie and pumpkin pie (Mom's 9x13 version, which Bry calls a pumpkin cake). We all came down with a case of the winter yucks last night, so this week we'll be laying pretty low, eating our comfort foods, and trying to get better as quickly as possible.

  1. I love the idea of "cooking through" a cookbook! What a great and delicious idea. Wish I lived closer to help sample the treats. Love the pic of the cooks....Ever is such a pretty little peach. Prayers for quick healing from your winter yucks...xoxo
